if you have all the proper tools and a lift handy....
I'd say not too hard.

if you're doing it all with hand tools and jacks/jack stands, the difficulty definitely ramps up from there.

im guessing this is supposed to be in the z31 section

but its a pretty lengthy project. if youre mechanically adept, it shouldnt be too hard of a task. just take your time and do it right

he just said clutch.
he didn't really specify which car.
i think i was vague enough that it'll apply to any car.

Yup, yup and yup to the replies. However, I would like to add to Passaphist that if you're not comfortable replacing the clutch yourself, you can still drive the car "clutchless" to a repair shop of your choice - no matter how far it is. I would, however, choose a shop that guarantees its work, and will also replace the throw-out bearing. Please let us know if you want more info. on driving your car "clutchless" to a repair shop or replacing the clutch yourself.

Also, I'd like to add one other thing: Is your clutch going straight to the floor, with no pressure? If so, have you checked the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder? Your problem could be just the master cylinder, which is a much easier job to "repair/replace" than the clutch itself.

Have you confirmed that your problem is the clutch itself, and NOT the master cylinder?

Is Passaphist referring to a Z31? If so, the same advice from all of us applies, but the actual clutch replacement may be slightly different (Z32's are a real biotch to work on), so we should prolly move this thread to the Z31 section if that's what Passaphist was referring to.

If you haven't done a clutch before and you're doing it by yourself, it'll be a 10. You'll run into a few tricky spots along the way and you'll need to come to places ike this and ask for advice.

If you have a plan before doing it, with the right tools, and knowledge of what problems you will come across along the way, it will probaby be a 8.

For the first time, I would plan on it taking you 2-3 days. If you're not replacing the fywheel, you need to plan the time to get the old one re-surfaced. You'll also need to replace the engine rear main oil seal and the tranny mount while you're in there.

you shouldnt sit with it in gear, your not supposed to have the clutch pedal pressed down for more than 15 seconds actually, you will ruin the throw out bearing

No problem - it happens sometimes. Moved to Z31 Tech.
