86 reverse lights!
My reverse lights are on all the time, except when I turn the car off... I never experienced this one before!
Can anyone help? Thanks! |
switch that turn them on is in the tranny if you have a stick. auto I don't know. it is stuck closed

Zsteve, I have a related prob with my '86T (my reverse lights do not work at all - bulbs/circuits are OK). Let me know what you figure out and I would appreciate the input. I have not looked into the harness hookups with my tranny (5-speed) but as rogerz says, the prob is likely there. Can't think of anywhere else it could be.. So it sounds like a good few hours of work to get in there, trace down the prob - fix it and get out again. Let me know what you do with yours. Thanks!

rogerz didn't say - but my guess is that the harness links to the tranny would be interior - meaning inside the cabin - over the top of the tranny somewhere around the base of the shifter, in front of it or in back.
Unless rogerz sends a DON'T DO THAT msg, I would start by taking off the console and digging around. Got to be a harness link with circuits you could test. Underneath would be a major pain. Let's wait for rogerz' input. He has obviously thought about this.... :038: and he's chronically opposed to wasted effort. |
OK, but I can't throw out the baby that easy. Thrown babies cost $$$. All I really need is clean bath water. :103:

Found the reverse lamp switch in the FSM, schematics MT-2 and MT-20. Looks like you would put the car on a lift and check the switch out. It's on the side of the tranny toward the rear and it's either dead or disconnected.

you can get to it if you put the car up on jack stands. not need to pull tranny. check for power to the switch. if no power then dive into the schematics or run a new wire. you may even find the connector hanging in the air unplugged.

I removed the used one and replaced it. It's working fine now! Thanks again! 15min fix ;) |
