1986 boosting problem

I just bought an 86' turbo (all stock) Monday night and I know it's got some kind of boost problem. When I'm driving it and I look at the boost gage, it's not going past the 0. And I'm pretty sure it's suppose to be boosting around 3? But I also know it has an exhaust leak that I haven't been able to look for yet. But I'm wondering if the exhaust leak is the reason why it's not boosting. Other then that, it drives good. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, thanks

Well if there is an exhaust leak before or at the turbo that could definitely cause your issue. Gauge could also be bad.

Ok, I think the gauge is right because the car just doesn't feel as quick as it should. My buddy had an 85 turbo and it was pretty fast from a dead stop

Buy a real boost gauge, then report back. Also soooooo many variables in to why your buddies car is faster...

Does the gauge move at all? Or does it always read 0?

My factory boost gauge works when it wants to. When it does, it only goes to 0 under boost, but my aftermarket boost gauge says 7.
