Looking for a "Z31 mechanic" may be the problem here. For years, I have had excellent work done by really good professional mechanics who had never seen a Z31 before. What did they have in common? They attended a professional mechanics' school (typically post-high school (college-level) education in the States and/or elsewhere in other countries), take mechanical excellence very seriously in their work - have developed a basic understanding of motor vehicles they can apply to every model they encounter - and could read and understand the Nissan Service Manual for my Zs. I always carry the service manual in the Z, a fully printed and bound version which I created from the files I downloaded from Xenon, specific to my model and year. Each manual cost me about $65 to print and bind and it always gave the mechanic the answers he needed when he looked for them. You need a professional mechanic who likes, understands and has experience with older vehicles, uses his head to figure things out logically - can read a service manual correctly - and charges a reasonable hourly rate. Find THAT mechanic and you have all you need to keep your Z in top shape mechanically. That and a few bucks, of course. We get so used to having narrow "specialists" do our servicing that we forget the major talents out there who can do excellent work if we just ask them. When you meet them, they understand instantly why you want your Z to run perfectly and they are happy to help you get there.
