z31 braking and steering issue
2 Attachment(s)
Hi, this is my first post so please let me know if I make any, "rookie mistakes". I currently own an 88 z31 n/a, today while driving, I applied the brakes and noticed it pulling to the left, as I slowed down and came to a stop I heard a good awful screeching noise. I immediately pulled over, checked underneath the car and sure enough found something out of the ordinary. I took it easy on the way home and looked a done suspension diagrams to find what this part was, but to no avail, so here I am wondering if anybody can tell me what this is and if it is an easy fix, I'm hoping it's rather common and simple because I just finished transmission swapping the car and would like to be able to drive it.

Welcome to ZDriver!
That would be the tension rod... looks like the bolts either broke, or came loose enough to fall out. Indeed a scary feeling when it fails, because it keeps the wheel from being pushed back / out. Make sure you've download the FSM which contains all the diagrams you'd ever need: Z31 Factory Service Manuals And here's an online diagram: http://nissan4u.com/parts/300zx/us_z...llustration_3/ 36 Rod tension, http://static.nissan4u.com/epc_img/57473484001988.png |
