Switching Trannys? ECU?

On a 1988, if you swap out an automatic for a manual, do you need to replace the ECU as well? Simple question, I've just read about ECU's being made for Speciffic transmission types. Thanks.

No problems. Just may have a higher idle. Easy to adjust.
