Road Trip

I have a 1986 na 300zx it has 153,000 miles on it. I have replaced the water pump, timing belt, spark plugs, timing belt tensioner in the last 1,000 miles or so. I want to take a road trip from central Florida to Ontario Canada, around 2,000 miles one way. My question is should I expect any problems? I know that anything is possible but I was wondering if Z's especially my year and make are notorious for breaking down at my inparticular mileage and under driving conditions like driving 2,000 miles. Does driving long distances put any more stress on a fuel pump than driving it around the city? I know that the fuel pump will be running at a constant instead of off and on but does it running constant heat it up any more than usual? Ok, well if anything else seems important to take into consideration when taking a z31 out for a 2000 mile trek let me know. Thanks ahead of time.

Re: Road Trip

As long as you've done your homework with the car in the first place, there isn't a whole lot that just breaks for no apparent reason.

I drove my NA from Phoenix to San Antonio and back last summer for the national convention. And from there to Houston and back. I had no problems. I also have 216,000 miles on it. Total round trip was in the 3000 mile range.

I also drove my AE from Phoenix to San Fransisco and back at the end of the summer. Total round trip was in the 2500 mile range. Only problem I had with it was that the radiator was gummed up, and it started to overheat on me on the way back.

It's all about the maintenance. If the car isn't maintained, I wouldn't trust it to get me across town and back. But if it's properly maintained, there is no reason it can't be driven anywhere.
