Replacement shifter bushing options?

So I have a 1985 300ZX with the NA engine and the 5 speed manual transmission. The shifter on it is very loose and has a deadzone where I can move the shift knob in a circle without actual moving anything in the transmission. It really seems that the shifter bushing is shot (or non existent). I tried looking around in the internet for a new shifter bushing that is Z31 specific, but can't find anything. What I've found though is that the naturally aspirated Z31 models uses the same manual transmission as the 240SX. Can I buy a 240SX shifter bushing and install it into my Z without any issues? Also, if the 240SX bushing fits, is it really recommended that I should get the solid metal shifter bushing, or can I get away with the plastic shifter bushing?

I assume you are referring to the little round bushing that slides over the bottom end of the shiftier. There are subtle differences between the FS5W71 tranny used in the Z31 and the 240SX, but I think aftermarket shifters sold for the 240SX are known to work in the Z31. This transmission has been used in many Nissan models so finding a new replacement shouldn't be a problem. Probably more of them have been used in truck models than any other Nissan. I would stay with the nylon bushing. It's design for years of service, and easy to replace.
