Replace Springs or not?

A friend of mine is going to do the work on my 87 to replace the shocks in back and struts in front.
He is recommending replacing the springs..Only 70K on the car but it is 30 years old.

Yes or no on the Springs?

Thx

It depends.

Are you going to put in lowering springs or stiffer springs or just stock replacements?

I would think that the springs would be ok if the car has just been sitting a long time. The stress of driving for 30 years would have worn them out, but maybe not just sitting for that long.

Still springs are cheap and you'll have them out when you do the shocks/struts.

I replaced the shocks/struts in my '93 recently and didn't do the springs. Sometimes I think I should have, but I didn't want to add adjustable control arms to correct the camber from lowering springs.

I never replaced a spring on my Z31s. Shocks and struts, when I got the right ones, restored the original ride perfectly, often even better, no matter how old my original springs. I would think the signs of a "worn-out" (tired?) spring would include some kind of "bottoming-out" over rough terrain. How many logging roads in mountain forests will you be driving while fully-loaded? I think when you encounter a speed bump that you didn't 'slow down' for should tell you how your existing springs are performing. Shocks and struts are all you need to do, or at least that's my vote. Good shocks can handle all of it .

the springs are tough not like 1st generation. I cut off my frt.s to lower it 1/2 "
are the frt. shocks leaking ,shafts gaulded ? If the caps are ok ,if not change fluid 1st .esp. if turbo
adjustable
I changed the fluid on my rears and fixed them

Thx for the replies...They look good. But the guy who is going to do the work used to work at a shop and always goes High TOP drawer!
So, I'll keep the springs..no lowering or any mods.

Thx again!
