Radio

Trying to stay original, anybody got a good, working, original radio with cassette, no amp for 1984 Turbo.

Nice job to keep it original. I'm trying my best also to keep my car original. '85 non-turbo. Everything works well but the cassette player. In my attempts to fix the player I bought a whole radio unit with the player that was taken out of an '85. I don't know it's working condition but it looks good.

I'm planning on sending in the unit currently in my car to a repair shop to have it rebuilt. ($350.00!!). Sounds like a lot but I can't find anyone who'll repair it.

If it goes well and I get my radio back and it works, I'll gladly sell you my extra radio/player. I won't however be doing any of this until after Thanksgiving.

Interested?

Ebay sometimes will have units available but the condition is iffy considering the price they are asking.

Good luck.

For mid 80s I dont think it adds much more interest in the car to have a stock stereo cassette.
yes on 60s to early 70s

I too am trying to stay original as possible, with in reason, on my 82 280zx.
As said above, I don't think the radio is all that essential for originality value, especially if it's already not working properly. But I will be keeping mine all intact and stored safely after fitting in a normal single din.

If you find a repair shop let me know, no luck here.

Antennae

O.k., I broke down and bought aftermarket Kenwood system, still trying to get the original repaired. Install went great, was able to attach antennae switch to face plate. Used original harness back to car, now antennae won't go up or down, it clicks when you press the switch up or down but that is all.

Any suggestions. Would really love to keep the antennae, but looks like an aftermarket if I am to listen to radio.

You can adjust the compass at the supply located behind the spare tire. Could also be the unit in the roof. Mine was erratic until I set the car up pointing North and made a couple of turns on the adjustments. Works fine now.

I was so bummed when the radio stopped working in my '85.
i could care less if someone else thinks its cool, or adds value.
to me the stereo in mine is the cherry on top! (the upgraded one w the eq and everything)
it puts a stamp on what these cars are, all about the excess of the 80's.

If anyone out there does find somewhere that can repair these i would love to know about it!

I

Sent my radio to this guy for a non-working cassette player. (radio was fine). They did a good job and am pleased with their service. It wasn't cheap though. $450.00. Yikes!

I know that puts a repair out of reach for some, but for me it was worth it.

Here the repair company:

Damn, tape player was working. While radio just quit one day, it was like someone ran over my dog 😪
