possible intake mod?

A friend of mine and I were looking at the stock air intake on my 300zx the other day and he threw out an idea. Would it be possible and benificial to cut the tubing short and instal a cone filter? Maybe use an air scoop?

well you have to figure out how to mount the MAF which is forward and down from the circle in your picture.

Second, getting air from that location is gonna be on the warm side so you will probably hurt more than help matters.

Hey, you can check out the information/instruction that the master AZ-ZBum has posted on this site! He has pictures and stuff too, so give it a shot. Here is the link:

if i put a k&n flitercharger on my 85z how much horspower would it give me and if my car does stock 7.4 from 0-60 how much faster would it be? if u guys have this mod on ur z can u tell the difference from a stock one or is there very little difference. y dont they make the whole intake system for our z's instead of just makin filters for this car.

exactly! but...

Thank you so much Calvin D!!! Now, what if I added an air scoop right above the filter to draw cool air? Would this be too much air? Sorry, I'm an electronics guy so this is all new to me. But hey, if any of you are interested, I am currently working on a digit code on a 9 button keypad for ignition instead of the pesky key!

Chao for now

P.S. Thanks to everyone else for the prior and hopefully future input. :p
