No start! Help!

Hey there, I'm working on a 1987 300Zx, was an auto swapped over to manual + its the turbo version.

Clutch switch was "funky" before, but I pulled it and tested ohms, goes OL to 0.0 when pressed. New battery, and jumped under the car with a wrench and manually hit the starter, it kicks on and works.

Where should I go? Starter (anti theft) relay?
I do have power to starter obviously

If it's cranking, are you getting spark? Have you tried checking the ECU for codes? Do you hear the fuel pump?

Fuel pump yes, crank no. It was driven and then didn't start, found the starter basically hanging off the engine, loose bolts. Tightened it back up and jumped the terminals and it cranks so it does work, but for some reason im not getting signal to it now

Jumping will turn it over, but not start and turning the key won't crank at all?

Have you checked the ECU codes?

You could also check the fuseable link for ignition. It is located next to the battery under a small black cap. You'll know pretty much right away if it's blown.

You could also pull the small portion off the back of the key cylinder and check continuity when in different positions based on the factory service manual schematics.

Could also be a fuse issue. They are located in the drivers foot well.

when i use a screwdriver and jump the terminals on the starter, it turns over. So all the wiring getting power to it must be functional... but what about relays? Ignition issues? I know absolutely nothing about these cars

Like you, I am new to these cars within the last year. I would still suggest you check the electrical portion at the rear of your key cylinder. I would also check the fusible links for the ignition, which are located in the small rectangular plastic housing near the battery. There are also fuses in the drivers foot well. I would investigate these easy check first.

You could also check the ECU for codes. I would check to see if the connected to the starter is connected. Not the main power but the ignition wire connector.
