Re: Jacobs ignition

I saw that ad also. I gave them a call and asked a little about their Ice pack ignition system. They say that they have dynoed a Z NA and Turbo (I asked and they said they had done this to an 86, which is what I have) and that the system was good for 10 rwhp and 2-2.5 miles to the gallon better than stock.
The reason you get more power is because the ignition burns your plugs hotter, thus creating more combustion, thus more horsepower. Since you are "supposedly" burning fuel at 97% efficiency, you get more MPG. This paticular system also comes with an electronic ignition control, which from what they said remaps your fuel curve, sort of like a JWT ECU or JET chip. Thus more power. They quoted me 517.00 for the whole kit, plug wires(warranted for life of car), coil, which has to be mounted somewhere other than stock location, wire harness and ECU. I guess it does make more power in the sense that you have a more efficient fuel burn, but the coil also pumps out alot more than stock, so that probably helps alittle also.

Re: Jacobs ignition

So it would be cheaper to buy a j. ig. from summit than jacobs ignition themselves?

Re: Jacobs ignition

yes it is i didnt believe it myself but its true. for some reason and this is what the guy at summit told me there really not into selling to the public to much, also, since places like summit buy in large quantities, they can in return give you a cheaper price. like i said if you dont belive me just call and find out for yourself. you will be surprised
1-800-230-3030 there is the free number just call

Re: Jacobs ignition

Misery opoun misery,

My Z got totalled today!!!!! No pics. Some dumb @#%$#^%$#%$$^%&%^&$*&(&@$%!$#@%!$#@%@%$&#^%&*#^%&* #%^&*#^%&#%^*$#&*(&#^%&@#%$^@%$#^!$#^%#*&(%&*$&*#^ %@$#%!$#%$#@^#*$% driving a Q$#%$^#%$^&^%$&#@%$^!@%$^ mustang at mach 1.02 or something ran a red and T'ed me. She's toast. Took out my passenger side, broke the motor from the mounts and thashed it, my driveline is,$#%^$ and needless to say everything that could break did.
The only saving grace is that I am going to invest in another turbo car. I have this one for parts, the insurance co/will total her, and I will get another, and will have $ to spend on mods. So as of now, I am in the market for an 86-88 ZXT. I will probably go with the jacobs on that, so I'll let you know. In the meantime, if anyone sees a decent Z for sale, let me know!

(very p*ssed off)

Re: Jacobs ignition

Damn that sux.The real saving grace is your able to post this message Glad to see your okay.Been there, done that know how it feels.Good luck w/ the ins co.I've only seen one decent z at a reasonable price and I'll probly buy it w/ the money from my wreck. There's a lot of z31's out there, several on z31.com but they're all overpriced.I came close to buying a 280zxTurbo but it was sold just before I found out about it.I gotta admit I like the 280zx body style more than the 300.Hella lot easier to work on too.And they're fast and dependable. But hard to find one in good shape at a reasonable price.I thought about keeping my 85zxt and doing some more mods.It still looks pretty good considering.Arightdeen, good luck.

Re: Jacobs ignition

Yes, I am ok. That is good. I have a dilema now though, no turbo car, and my brother has a turbo RX-7 (lot's of rivalry). I need to fix this soon. I will find another Z, it's just a matter of weeks. I post pics when I get it.

Re: Jacobs ignition

Thanks All,

Tempting, spot, but for now I think I'll just work on getting the car. I have a few leads on an 86zxt for 2995.00, but I am a little nervous about purchasing a car I haven't seen. Any suggestions?

Ghost.

Re: Jacobs ignition

if the car isnt near where you live, ask around on various forums and there's sure to be someone that can look at it for you. They can tell you if it's worth a long drive or plane ticket to go look at it for yourself. I had some relatives nearby that checked my '86T in Rochester NY, and they were able to tell me I'd be VERY interested in the car. So I flew out there, bought him and drove him back to Houston.

make a list of specific things you want them to check, something they can print out and cross off as they check.

good luck.
