I replaced my spark plug wires and plugs with NGK brand and the results are AMAZING

Just wanted to share my results with the forum on my new spark plug and wire replacement. I’ve been noticing some rough running and misfire lately. I read that the ‘85 manual says to buy NGK Japanese plugs and it also gives a gap range. I decided to pick some up from the local store and went to replace my current ones and ended up destroying one of the wires and the rubber, so I went ahead and ordered some NGK wires as well (rock auto $31 after shipping compared to $70-$80 at most stores. After some trial and error, and a 10” extension and swivel socket for the 6th cylinder spark plug, the new ones were gapped at .41 per owners manual and installed. The difference in performance is incredible! This might be a no brainer to replace these items on a 33 year old car; however I still se a lot of folks having misfire problems. Goodluck!

Excellent post. High-quality plugs and wires are among the first 'tune ups' to do on a 30 yr old Z - or any model for that matter. On used vehicles, the problem is that previous owner ran the vehicle and hardly noticed as the performance degraded over the months. "It's just getting older." At age 26 (my first Z) I replaced the plugs and wires, used a chemical cleaner on the injectors - and Bam! Like-new performance on a 26 yr old Z. Brought back old times! :006:

100% agree. Bought an 85 NA, one owner 90,000. It ran great for the most part but cold starts would take 4-6 attempts. Also, once it warmed up and I drove for a bit (running fine) if I shut off the car for a quick stop and then restarted the Z would act like it was bogging down. It would take a little driving for it to clear up but would eventually. I took it to Nissan ( great friends with service manager) to have plugs replaced and check it over for any issues since I had purchased it. He suggested I replace the plugs, wires, cap etc with OEM and so I did. WOW, what a difference. On a cold start now, car fires right up and idles perfect. The issue with the bogging down after a restart...gone. Car has more power and runs so much cleaner.
