Its doing exactly what its supposed to do. when a engine is cold it idles faster to get the engine warmed up quicker. just be easy on the engine till it gets up to operating temp.

Hahahaa, my Z does exactly the opposite! On cold mornings (and evenings), it'll idle at about 700 rpm until it's warmed up nice and toasty, at which point it'll idle back to the normal 900-1100 rpm. Sometimes, on those REALLY cold days (or as cold as it could get up here in Chicago), I'll have to give it a little gas for a few seconds before letting go in order to keep it alive!

For a car that's more than 15 years old, it's normal for the engine to run very differently than when it was first off the assembly. Hey, by the way, if you don't shut off and restart the engine, does it still idle at 1500 rpm after 5 minutes?
