help my Z, please!
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'll try to describe what's going on as best i can. i have an '85 z31 non turbo 5spd w 142,000 miles. i'm having a problem with the car bucking violently whenever i try to accelerate quickly out of first gear. it doesn't do it all of the time as i've been able to kind of work around it by revving up the rpm's to at least 2500 before ever letting out on the clutch. it only happens in first gear though. even if i can start out smoothly, if i punch it in first, it just slams. there seems to be some gasping/hesitation in the intake or the fuel injectors as i try to accelerate from a dead stop, but as soon as i get it into second, it's fine. it has never stalled out, but just bucks wildly (my girlfriend seems to enjoy that part, but anyway). i would say it's the clutch itself, but i don't lose any power in any other gear. it shifts smoothly into and out of first, so i don't think it's the synchronizers, but, obviously i'm no expert, so i could easily be wrong. also, this may or may not be connected, but the clutch pedal gradually makes its way to the floor and stays there. after every 4 or 5 shifts, i have to put my toes behind the pedal and pull it out again. master cylinder??? i hate to spend the $$ on replacing the clutch to find out it's something simple. anyway, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
