i've been doing research on my z recently. my model number is KHLZ31XUG. K is t-tops, H is vg30e, L is left hand drive, blank spot for 2 seater, then z31. X means it's a GLL model, blank spot for manual trans, another blank for non-turbo, U is the USA model. next is the G. I can not find what that G means. also, my car is not the GLL. there's no digital dash or headlight wipers. i have power seats but they are not leather. also have a 4 spoke steering wheels if that helps. but i'm a little confused here. if you have any info on why my model is the GLL in a GL car, let me know. i read that the digital dash and the headlight washers are optional. and GLL has defog mirrors which I have...so is my car actually a GLL without the dash and washer options? and not a GL as i think it is? dark red metallic paint, A for red interior...you get it. thanks - BWDS my plate identification
"K": car has a T-bar roof
"H"” car has a VG30 engine
"L": car has left hand drive
"Z31" is Nissan’s code name for the 1984-89 300ZX model
"X": car has a GLL trim level
"U": car has a rest of the United States emissions (not California’s)
"G": car has automatic climate control
Your car is a 1987 model because pos. 10-10 of the vin no. is equal to “H” which is the 1987 model year.
Nissan changed the definition of the GL and GLL trim levels for most of the z31 model years.
For 1984, the GLL trim level included a digital dashboard, automatic climate control, and leather seats.
For 1985, the GLL trim level included a digital dash, auto. climate control but not leather seats. Leather seats became a separate option that was not part of the GLL trim level package.
For 1987, if I remember correctly, the GLL trim level included automatic climate control but NOT necessarily a digital dashboard and leather seats.
You need to see a 1987 300ZX glossy sales brochure to see what features were standard on both GL and GLL trims, what features were included in GL and GLL trims, and what features were options that were not part of GL and GLL trims. I have a 1984 and 1985 300ZX glossy sales brochure but not 1987. I don’t know where you can find one.
Another reason for a disrepancy between what the brochure says the car has and how a car is equipped is modding. A previous owner of your car may have modded it by swapping out parts for features that didn’t come with your car as OEM. I don’t think this is your case. For example, swapping is usually done for auto. to manual transm. and for N.A. to turbo.
