gear ratio

Hi i'm not too sure about the gear ratio's on my 86 nissan 300zx 2+2 turbo with an auto but if i slide the stick all the way to the back so that it holds it in i can get my car going a good 80 km/h in first gear but from right off the start it is exremely slow. ie I can't spin the tires unless it is very wet outside. I was wondering if one of the other 2 previous owners changed the gears on it or if it would be possible to change them so that i am quicker off the line and possibly spin the tires when it is dry out. If so i was wondering how much it would cost to get a dealership to do it and or would it be difficult to do it myself. I have some tools but not much experience. Thanks a lot.

Re: gear ratio

if somebody went through all the trouble to change gears in a auto(don't even know if you can do that)it would of been a lot cheaper to put a stick in it

Re: gear ratio

Ya but it is the only thing that makes sense for the car to be a 3L turbo and not be able to burn out...and do 80km/h in first gear..?

Re: gear ratio

what is 80 km/h in mph?

Re: gear ratio

80 is about 50 mph. not hard to do that in first. turbo's came with a 3.54 gear ratio and non-turbo's a 3.7.
