fuel pump problem

ok so i put a new fuel pump on my 84 turbo. I installed everything correctly, but it isn't working, i took the pump back out, and the pump works fine, the harness in the hatch is showing that it is getting power, but still no gas coming out, which is starting to drive me nutz. I have dropped the tank four times now. and it still isn't pumping. We even tried bypassing the harness with a direct positive and negative power wire, with a fuse from the battery. Anyone had this problem before?? If so help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

What's the make of the fuel pump? I work in a auto parts store and i know there is a big recall on the airtex and delphi fuel pumps of all vehicles. We packed up all of our pumps and returned them to the manufactorer. Return the fuel pump and get a warranty on it. It should have a 1 year warranty. Very seldomly new pumps go bad or just a plain bad pump that somehow skipped inspection. If that too comes out with the same results then there is a problem with your wiring in ya z. Doing Electrical work sucks!

If your getting juice to the pump, then you might wanna check your wiring at the pump or make sure the pump isnt defective.

the pump works fine when i take it out of the tank and hook it up to a battery, its just when its mounted it has no power, like a ground problem or something.. Idk.. I have a mechanic buddy of mine coming over tommorow, so maybe we'll figure more out, but it just doesn't make sense that when i hold the pump in my hand it works fine but when i put it in the tank, it does nothing.. And it does that with two different pumps. and the brand of the pump is made by high flow fuel systems.

let us know what ya buddy says but from what ya describing sounds to me like ya having a wiring problem in the harness from the vehicle or something farther back in the car if the pump is testing good. thats why i say doing electrical work sucks, cuz really ya need to have the patience to work on a wiring project. This is what i would do, bash it with a wrench several times and say, "american components, russian components, ALL PARTS MADE IN TAIWAN!!!!" it should work after that.

wait till it throws a spark, thatll fix the problem.....id go buy another one and check ALL your wires, lines, ect.
