Fixing sun damage on 86NA spoiler
 

Hi everyone!

I’ve been working on restoring my grandpa’s 1986 300zx NA. I don’t have much technical experience, but it was either me or she was hitting the scrap yard.

right now I’m trying to figure out to fix the sun damage on her spoiler. I think it’s the fibreglass kind—it’s not foam, and honestly feels like plastic. I’ve been told that spray point or aerosol will work, but I’m looking to make it look good and I’m not sure if those ideas are good options. I’ve tried to look up things about redyeing fibreglass but none of it was for automotive. This car means a lot to me and I’m afraid of messing her up.

As strange as it may seem, it's not that the paint has faded but what you see is a layer of dust, dirt and other contaminants building up over time. What you need then is a paint cleaner. This can be a rubbing compound, scratch repair stuff (same) and a whole host of brand name products that bill themselves as clean-cutting, de-oxidizer, etc.
And if none of the above cuts it :) you can paint it.

My spoiler on my 88 Turbo looked terrible also. I took it to a paint shop and told them to paint it when they were doing a black car. Was pretty cheap since it was just an extra spray for them with already mixed paint.

Thank you! I didn’t even expect that. I took some sandpaper to a spot at it a bit and saw black paint come through. Truly, thank you, I can’t wait to fix that up.
