85' Temp Gauge

Greetings ZDriver folks, I have a funny issue here.

I have a 85" NA (2+2) with the regular dash, and the temp gauge does not work. The car is not overheating or has any temp issues, the thermostat works, and if im not mistaken the temp sensor for the ECU is working as well. However the temp gauge does not move an inch.

I've located the temp sending unit, and when I ground the single wire the temp gauge PEGS right! So I thought that's great news the gauge works and so does the wiring. Upon replacing the "thermal transmitter" with the correct Nissan OEM part and torquing it down to about 14 lbs as per the data sheet, still NOTHING. I've tried 2 OEM Nissan senders and an aftermarket, still nothing.

Despite all of this, still when I ground the cable the gauge shoots all the way to the right. To rule out that connector being the issue I clipped it and have been connecting the single wire straight to the sensor, nothing on the gauge. Touching the wire to the base of the sensor (I suppose it would be ground) it shoots the sensor right. The sensor has ground from what I can tell, the gauge works when shorted, but it can not read the temperature sensor period.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks friends
