everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

Ok. I need all of you guys help. i am sick and tired of my cars problem. i could almost shoot it but i remind myself its a Z. I need you guys too list every possible problem causing the following.

My car will normally start cold. i get driving and it dies later down the road. sometimes i get further than other times. when the car dies i take the lead from the coil that goes to the distributer and try to get it to spark to metal on the car. well it doesnt spark when it dies. i still have full power to the car, except for that lead coming from the coil. plz list every possible problem that can cause this. this has been going on for months now. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

thx dkrzan

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

Try pulling your altenator and have it checked at your local parts store (Auto Zone does it for free). That may be your problem. Because your battery can't power your car forever!!

One question: Do you have to jump start it after it dies, or will it eventually start on its own?

If you have to jump it.....it's definately the altenator.

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

it starts after awhile. i already had to replace the alternater. i also have replaced the coil and ignition unit transistor.they are all good. but yeah it starts after awhile. also i noticed that a vacuum hose was off of a box below the coil. it is ripped so i'll have to get a new hose and reconnect. can this cause my problem? whatever it is suppose to plug into has a wire plugged into it also. thx.

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

i would suspect the distributor. happened to me on my 82. it woiuld run perfectly, then die. sometimes for 10 miles, sometimes 10 feet. very random.

DISTRIBUTER

have it checked asap...............had the same prob on my 86 and it was a crank angle sensor..seems like it was hard to diagnos......i fixed EVERYTHING ELSE before i did this(and evyone here told me to check that first)i mean everything..ecu, power transistor, vac lines, ec valve(expensive waste of meny that was) all wires.....ect you get the idea. I could have saved myself 3 months of frustration and 4-500 bucks. Check the distributer. Oh, and fix that vac line.

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

sounds like the crank angle sensor. easiest is to find another distributor at a 'yard and swap it. maxima's with the vg30 engine like ours use the same crank angle sensor and are sometimes easier (and maybe even cheaper) to find.

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

could the hose that ripped off the boost sensor below the coil cause my problem, or the fact that the sensor was knocked off the fuel pressure regulator?

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

well i replaced a bunch of hoses. i had hoses that were harder than plastic. very brittle. so i guess i fixed a bunch of vacuum leaks. i replaced the hose to the boost controller, and put in a new fuel pressure regulator due to the sensor that was snapped off. i also replaced the (quite overdue) fuel filter. i test drove it to find it had alot more power. it didnt die. i only drove a couple of miles, but usually after driving that far, when i turn it off it won't start again. this time it started back up just fine every time. still not sure if its fixed tho. i'm gunna go for a much longer test drive after i bleed my brake lines and fix the right rear caliper which is leaking. brakes are still working just very spongey. would test drive with the messed up brakes but it is pouring rain. will let you all know if it dies or if i run into any other problems. thx

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

well it is still doin the same ole [censored]. i went to start it yesterday and it wouldnt. my dad is stubborn and wont change the distributer---yet. he thinks its something to do with the back wiring harness and the fuel pump. i dont see how this can cause your car not to get spark but if it gets fixed i'll be happy. i'll let ya'll know if i fix it.

Re: everybody help plz!!!!!!!!

don't forget to sacrifice something before you try to start it again, I hear that works quite well
