Digital dash power supply components
So the digital dash on my 84 300zx turbo went out.I tried to resolder it a couple times with no joy, so I took it to a shop that specializes in repairing electronic modules. They said it has a blown transformer but it doesn't have a part number or specs on it so they can't replace it.I've spent the past couple hours opening up everything I could think of that would have a transformer to salvage it from with no luck. So before I admit defeat anyone happen to know a part number or the specs of the transformers in the power supply?Right now digital dash power supply units can be had from $100-300 on ebay but there is no way of knowing their condition, indeed even mine has writing on it indicating it came from a junkyard.

If its a 84 the power supply number would be 24821-01P11. Can you provide a picture of the power supply? |
The power supply has a sticker that says 24821 01P11,22370-FL7010,Lot No. 2 804,TDK Japan, and CE-0491M.
Although there is writing in marker on it that says 86 300zx Digi Dash pwr unit &298 LIST,Indicating that it has been replaced already.Although that doesnt help in tracking down transformers. |
A big problem was the liquid crystal disp. Going bad from sitting in 160 degree heat ,
sure it will function when power applied? I remember customers having on going probs related to this techs were using old electrical load testers. Warping IC chips |
At this point I don't know. The car was parked for a while because I had a strut gland nut come unscrewed while I was driving it, that boogered up the threads in the strut housing, but I was able to file the burrs and eventually get it thread back on.When I started the car the digital dash worked sometimes. When it didn't just hitting the dash near the power supply would bring it back to life.Until it didnt.

Is there a functional difference between the early and late digital dash power supplies? Mine is 24821 01P11, but on ebay I can only find the 24820 21P00.

i have a 1986 digital display on my 300 zx , it works once in a while. I finally removed it and jiggled the connections and it went on. Is that the Power module thats bad or something else ? These modules are expensive. I cant afford buying on just to find out its a loose wire somewhere else. Whats the chances its the module thats really faulty?

I'm not having much luck finding a good condition power supply.Would it be possible to bypass the digital dash and its power supply and run the wires that went to the power supply to a couple of aftermarket gauges?Analog clusters arn't too expensive on ebay but then I would still need to track down a wiring harness for the dash as well. Not to mention pulling the dash itself which as I understand it is quite a PITA.
