Boost Sensor?

ok, i don't know wtf the damn thing is really, all i know is that it's on the driver side fender in the engine bay and it says boost sensor on it. it has two plug ins on it and if they're disconnected while she's running she bogs down and idles like shit. but if it's unplugged and she's not started she won't start...at all. i've seen alot of Zs without this and was wondering what this is exactly, what it does, and how can i take it off. it also has i'm guessing vacumm lines on it and other air lines on it. thanks guys.

A boost sensor well... "senses boost" (and vacuum). :D It is the sensor for the boost gauge, and may be for the ecu as well (you can check the FSM for the answer). Replace it if it isn't working correctly.

AZ-ZBum Nov 25, 2008 08:37 PM

It's for the gauge on the dash. Nothing else.

yeah, but when i disconnect it the car runs something awful. and it works fine. i just want it off lol. FSM? is there a way to...i guess take it off the ecu. i'm guessing program the ecu? i have no experience with this stuff lol

dude, the boost sensor has nothing to do with ECU, if you are playing with the wires and getting odd results, i would check that part of the harness and check the coil wiring, then check the local grounds..

Zetto Nov 25, 2008 11:19 PM

i'm not playing with the wires. but i want to know why my car runs like it's about to die when i disconnect it. and how would i take it off?

AZ-ZBum Nov 26, 2008 07:22 AM

You take it off by disconnecting and removing it. But I'm almost positive there are no wires that lead from it to the ECU.

Zetto Nov 26, 2008 10:15 AM

well then why does she run horrible? like she's about to die? and if they're disconnected she wont even start.

NismoPick Nov 26, 2008 01:11 PM

Okay... getting to the bottom of this...

Maybe you could post a pic? The boost sensor should only have one plug on it (from what I remember). The other plug may be for something else.

If it runs fine plugged in, and doesn't while unplugged... what is the problem? Leave it plugged in and the car is happy. You want a happy car don't you? :D

"A lot of Z's without this" ? Maybe they weren't the turbocharged model?

AZ-ZBum Nov 26, 2008 02:24 PM

Are you unplugging the vacuum line as well? If so, that will be a part of it. These cars are very susceptible to problems if they have vacuum leaks.

Zetto Nov 26, 2008 08:52 PM

well the vacumm hose doesn't even do anything!! idk...and yeah, every one i've seen without it was turbocharged. my year even! and yeah, i want my car happy lol but i do plan on replacing the boost gauge (which i've never done) so...yeah
