Any tips for fog light replacement?

From my 1988 I recall the rubber boot ripped when I tried removing it..
The job did not go smoothly. Therefore, I ask if anyone has any tips before I go about it on my 1987 Z31.
I am referring to simply putting in a new bulb. Tips about dis-assembly and replacement..
I recall there was a clip..long time ago

thx

I find it easier to remove the whole assembly. three m6 and two m8 if I remember correctly. shown how in the fsm. download from xenon if you don't have it. I replace the connectors for the headlight and the running light.

That's a good idea! But, what about the cable coming into the light assembly? Easy to disconnect?

yes or I wouldn't have done it.

Yeah clip in blue white H3 bulbs on ebay $6.99. Looks cool.

Well, with the warmer weather today I got under the car and went to work. I tried getting the entire fixture out..but after 2 screws thought better of it and did it the old fashioned way. I had to crimp on a male connector to the bulb as it came with a spade. Then it took a while for me to position myself and get a clear view of how the clip works holding in the bulb. Then I had to figure out how the round cap connection locks back into place. Once that was done and after a few miscues..job is complete. Now, my hope is, I do far better than in previous attempts in changing the fog lamp. Last time (13 years ago) I do not think I had everything sealed up well allowing moisture in and..you guessed.. poof went the light.

Solder all connections rust loves metsl.

Too late for that! I am sure had I lifted the front end a drop the job would have been a bit easier. I am just happy I did not rip the rubber covers as I had done years ago.

ok

Long clip rusted wires loose connections, it ain't 1987!

It all looked somewhat fresh in there..low miles on the car..

Garage kept is the best!

Donn144 12-02-2014 04:18 PM

this car was kept in a temp controlled hanger for many years..then a garage and rarely driven. I have had it three years and feel naughty as I am the first to truly use it.
I tread very lightly on my cars and so, even though there are a few dings not present when I bought the car..still very clean.

But, being that child support being what it is....a garage is out of the question right now as something has to give.

I am working to get it reduced. It is wiping me out.
