Zbum's information page (ZBUM's Z31 300ZX Basic Information link page) is a list of discussions that cover the differences in Z31 year and trim models. The big changes between the 84-86 and 87-89 cars were the hood and front clip, the rear tail light section, and the switch from the A/B series engine to the W series. The FS5W71C manual was used in all NA engined cars. The FS5R90A manual (a T5 clone) was used in the 84-86 turbo cars. The later turbos used a much improved FS5R30A manual. All automatics used the E4N71B tranny, but there are subtle differences in the clutch packs and valve body on the turbo cars. The bolt pattern on the driveline connector plate changed on 87-89 cars. Special models, like the Shiro, had other unique changes and improvements. Most interior panels and the seats in the 87-89 cars seem to transplant well in the older cars. I think all the T-Tops were te same, but some models had darker tints and/or mirrored glass.

door panels are different. ignitor, dizzy good to grab. relays. inside get the window switches they go bad. the two switch pods on either side of the speedo section. need to get a 10m/m nut off to remove. stand on your head type job. side marker lights. maybe the motor off one of the headlight units. maf. inside door handle unit. there is a plastic piece in there that breaks then inoperative. best I can come up with off hand. maybe a fuel pump.
