86 turbo differential problem

so i'm looking at buying an 86 turbo, and the biggest thing wrong with it is that "there is a broken U-joint or bracket on the differential that causes it to 'clunk' if not driven properly. By properly I mean like a responsible owner would, i.e. not short shifting or clutch dropping, at least not until it is fixed which is a simple one at that. Said sound is not causing a noticeable problem to the function of the car in any way"

anybody have any info on this, or how to fix it? thanks.

It's a simple fix but you're asking how to do it? Have you actually got under the car and looked? Look at the x-member bushings and the differential mount.

i haven't actually seen the car, i'm going up to look at it on the 22nd. i was just making sure that it wasn't a huge problem before i bought the car. the car will not be needing to be driven daily till summer, so its just going to sit and get worked on for a while. so i should be able to tell how to fix it just by looking at it?

Maybe. Neither one are really easy to fix but the rear diff insulator isn't too hard. Replacing x-member bushings is a PITA. The main thing is if the car is nice and the price is right the problem is more of a negotiating point than a deal breaker.
The entire rear suspension has to be removed.

alright well good deal that its not a major problem. this car is in nice shape, and if i tell him i'll have to take apart the rear suspension thatll prolly knock one or two hundred off the price. good deal. ill prolly post another thread asking for help in a couple of weeks haha. or doesnt az zbum have a rear suspension walkthrough on his site?

Can't remember. Others do though. Search Neil86t posts at 88hybrid for great pics he took while doing the rear suspension. Here...I had it booked:
