85' Window louvers

Hello everyone,

does anyone know if window louvers were made for the 1985 year model 300zx? I have been searching for a while and can't seem to find any information on this.

Thanks!

Yes, aftermarket, black ABS plastic or painted metal construction, side louvers installed with double sticky tape. All my Zs have (had) them. They would fit all Z31 models, including yours. Web site fotos don't always match so contact seller to verify. Google Nissan 300zx (side) (rear) window louvers. A number of sources you will find. Ain't cheap. But ya gotta have that look. Rear louver big bucks, mechanically installed. Should prefer the metal one for the rear. It is heavy and hinged so you can clean the window. ABS plastic OK for the sides. In place, you can reach behind to clean glass.

Great thank you your response was very helpful. I would prefer the metal ones for the back like you prefer. Would love even more to find some original oem louvers. Thanks again!

My original Z bought in '86 (NA) came with an optional rear window louver but I believed at the time that it was an aftermarket product simply offered by the dealer on new purchases. It was $200 extra in '86 and was painted metal, heavy, hinged at the top for lifting. No NIssan or Datsun labels anywhere but was well-constructed. The design was another matter because it rattled for months until I figured out how to dampen it all around with stick-on foam strips. Maintenance there. But it stayed with the car until I sold it two or three years ago. I took it off for my turbo. But there may have been no "OEM" louvers from Nissan in '85, '86 etc. The aftermarket people were pretty fast at coming out with products for brand new models then. Dust cover, same thing. Fit pefectly, aftermarket, bought same day I picked up my new Z, store down the road from the dealer. (My new Z was $22,111.00 in 1986, out the door. Not cheap by any means)

I see the plastic rear louvers on line. They would be lighter and probably rattle less but I would think that a hail storn or flying debris would take it out. So I have no experience with plastic rear louvers but think it is a good idea if correctly executed.

Hey, post a foto of your Z when you have the louvers. Thanks! :006:

Thanks that’s what I was wondering as I haven’t found anything “OEM” for our year models. The heavy metal ones are more my style I think, I try to avoid plastic (especially at $230-$350). There is a guy in Winston Salem I’ve seen about that has 40-50 Z’s and has parted many of them. If you haven’t heard of him yet he can be found at vintagezparts.com if you haven’t run across him yet. I will definitely upload some pictures on with some if i can find them . Thanks for the warm welcome here!

I think the legal aspects stop companies from making the aluminium variety if it flys off and hits a cyclist ,etc. Some did come off

Exactly right. Plastic is better for the side louvers because louvers can only be easily installed with sticky tape there. I never lost one but a heavier metal louver could really do some damage if it flies off at speed. Sticky tape would not provide a reliable 'permanent' installation for a heavy metal piece. Plastic side louvers are very light, still durable. Quick install, look great.

Yes. I have a 1985 300ZX glossy sales brochure right in front of me here.Nissan OEM rear window louvres were available as an accessory, not as not standard equipment. According to the photo, it was black and was only for the rear hatch window and not the two opera windows.

M
ost likely, it’s NLA (No Longer Available) by now but ask a Nissan parts dept. guy to be sure.
