5 speed swap help n clutch fork ?
:paranoid:Hi, i am putting a t5 trans out of a 84 zxt to a 85 zxt, the trans came without the cluth fork. I checked two auto parts stores, and said i needed a clutch fork for a 85300zx turbo and they dont have it,my question is, can i ask them for a clutch fork for a mustang t5 and will it fit and work right? And when i get the clutch fork, does it just attach to the throw out bearing that the clutch kit comes with. Or is there a cylinder sleeve that the throw out bearing goes into, that i have to buy also? Ps. ive never seen a throw out bearing and havent bought the clutch kit yet! So sorry if this sounds confusing!

Welcome to ZDriver! :006:
The thing you need to check is the diameter of the output shaft between the Nissan T5 and Mustang T5. I don't know if they are the same... and it would suck to spend the money and time, just to find out it won't work. Have you tried your local junk yards? Or a nationwide search? I don't know your location, but I just checked www.car-parts.com and found lots of 84-85 turbos (searched "slave" as "clutch fork" wasn't an option): 1986 Slave Cylinder Nissan 300ZX A 000711 $65 Stoystown Auto Wreckers USA-PA(Stoystown) E-mail 1-800-358-8770 1984 Slave Cylinder Nissan 300ZX 00001817 $45 Auto Carrera USA-AZ(Phoenix) E-mail 1-602-268-5900 1985 Slave Cylinder Nissan 300ZX TURBO,STOCK NO. 006473042 006473042 $35 Hawkins of Mayfield Inc. I have a nother question, what does it mean when somebody says its a t5 strait shift and are all t5s strait shifts and how do you shift a strait shift is it just like driving a normal stick shift?
|
im pretty sure thats another of saying "5 speed" "manuel" "stick shift" etc...
|
depends on what you are asking. Manuel is a name often used for hispanic males. Strait is a body of water.

Im going too pull a clutch pedal out of a 84 or 85 non turbo. What socket and extensions do i need to bring? It should be pretty easy cause the bottom dash under the steering wheel is missing! Any tips, and can i bend my own clutch line, or do i have to order it? I know i have to order the 280z brake line, and where do i attach the hard line onto the body before the brake line will there be some kind of clip on the frame or something?
|
hello anybody!:017:
|
You're asking what extensions and sockets to bring? :paranoid:
I'd say the ones you need for ANY work on the Z car... 10mm 12mm 14mm 17mm 18mm deep and normal sockets one or two extensions your ratchet all the other basic tools And you grab the clutch line from the car you are getting everything else from. No bending lines... no guessing... just grab the parts and swap into your car. |
