1988 300 ZX TT vs 1988 mustang GT cobra
 

Im going to be racing my buddy with my 1988 300 ZX TT against his 1988 Mustang GT cobra 5.0 L. Both cars will be stock at the time of the race... What I would like to know is, if I have a chance to beat the mustang, we both have the same driving abilities. He says the mustang stock can smoke the Z31 is this true...? any insight would be greatly appreciated.

There was not an 88 300ZX TT. And you've got a lot to learn if you think

You have a 1988 300ZX TT? Must be one of those rare models.
I believe stock 5.0 Mustangs were 200HP back then, but I don't know about the Cobra's.
Best way is to find out by racing him.

You will beat him top end, but he will probably smoke you off the line. I have an 85 NA auto, and I lined up with an 88 Trans Am with a 350 stick. All I saw were taillights to about 60, and from then on I made him look like he was sitting still. At 130mph, I was 2 car lengths ahead. Good old automatic tranny didn't shift to 4th til 120, and then it about threw me into the hatchback.
What can I do to get some low end? Torque converter, chip?

Z Rob.. That is what a lot of guys thought about my 88 300ZXT 2+2 auto... slow eh?...



They thought so.. till all they saw was my tailights..
very minor mods.. 10psi of boost, 3"ss cat back exhuast, K&N filter..and uhhhhh ...uhhh oh thats it!

0-60 in 5.9 sec
1/4 mile in 14.6 (I forget the speed)..have it filed somewhere..

I was unstoppable most of the summer.. I hung with lesser drivers in superior cars..ie 2000 camaros etc...hehe

My 300zxt 2+2 = sleeper :-)

Well it does'nt say 88ZXT 2+2 above, now does it?

Still not that fast. Respectible, but not fast. 14.6? Camaro's do a 13.8-14 flat, stock, your facing poor drivers

Well not in his signature.. but according to him is car is a turbo..though obviously not a twin turbo..

Your right on the camaros though.. poor drivers to only do mid 14's.. but then 13.8 - 14flat is with a pro driver/perfect conditions

Doesn't really concern me anyways.. At least in my winter Z...

Where did you read it was a turbo?

A lot of people think TT stands for T-Tops.
