Monkey Bars
Monkey Bars
I was going to post this in the "Appearance Exterior, Interior" forum, but, the [IMG] code is OFF in that message composition screen. Duh-Huh!! A roll cage is part of a chassis, so it'll work here. I can't believe pics can't be posted in the "Appearance" forum. Good job. [/rant]
Here's My post
I had a S & W Race Car six point roll bar. It wasn't SCCA legal because it didn't meet their material specifications. I found that to be a little strange because the material was NHRA approved, but not SCCA. A crash is a crash.
Anyway, I started over (again) and, except for the bends in the halo and main hoop, fabricated the entire thing myself. This time I went for a full cage. I think it turned out looking good and is track ready.
Here's the pics...

DuPont Single Step Enamel (heavy on the flake)..

As per SCCA, even the fuel cell is caged...

Safe bet for padding color... Actually, it's a perfect match...

Since I rolled her outside to take pics of the cage, I had to shoot a couple of the car in natural light... She's getting there...

For the "wingnuts"...

Okay, back inside for a few more months. Wires to wire, and plumbing to plumb. Later...

It will be licensed, and driven on the street, some. I'm not too sure how legal it will be. I've been considering retitling as a 2009 "custom" since I'm rebuilding about 90% of the car. I build kit cars for a living, and, my customers get their hot-rods titled as owner built "customs", thus avoiding the requirements the big manufacturers have to meet, such as emission standards. If all else fails, I'm a dealer. I'll use a dealer tag.
though i agree ^^^^^ as far as appearance i have a feeling its for real tracking so im hoping/guessing its pretty functional. the wing that is. the exhaust, could be tucked a bit more but otherwise no beef! also, looks purdy, i really like that paint job dupont you say? its all sparkle sparkle!
you must have the coolest job ever. do you do pretty much all factoryfives? good stuff. i saw that GTM. did you get to drive it? that's my single most favorite car ever.
anyway, on your Z, why did you do the intake the way you did? with the flat spot welded on top and all?

oh ok. i didn't know they had stuff in them. a big help?
i looked up the GTR. good stuff. it looks to perform a little better than a GTM if it has a stock LS7, but i'd make my GTM beat it with a TT LS8. i think. and the 6-speed race modified porche tranny. maybe. i still may like the GTM better. i'll do a price comparison
