Stupid Question

Plan and simple I can't get my shift knob off and I was wondering if there was a secret behind it or something. If it just screws on like every other factory one someone loc-tight that on there damn well. It won't budge at all. If I can't get off I might just buy a short shifter. 86 turbo I should be able to use one from an early 240sx right?

a pair of vise grips, a pipe wrench and some rags to make sure it doesn't screw it up! I got it off thanks guys. I'm still going to buy a diffrent shifter for it though. 50 bucks isn't bad at all
