Repair paint chipped brakelight cover?

I was wondering how to reapint or repair the trim that sits above the upper taillight above the hatch. It is originally a chrome surface painted black that shows chrome chipped areas. Could I remove this trim and just put some acetone on it or paint thinner to remove all the blakc paint and leave the chrome surface perhaps?

I would just mask it off, cover up all the paint with tape or paper, then use acetone, or lacquer thinner, it is pretty strong, so just dab a small piece of t-shirt and rub, it should come right off. If you wanted it black again, you could paint it then, I would suggest steel wool 1st before you paint to ruff it up for adhesion. Then wipe it down again before painting to get all the dust. Good luck.
