ZX-T Swap Manual

Guys:

Anyone ever pulled together the experiences and knowledge that people have on the 280ZX Turbo swap into the earlier Z's? A manual similar to the JTR V-8 swap sure would be nice. I know that I'd pay $50 for advice on the wiring side of it...If it's just a matter of someone doing it, then send me your notes, I'll compile them, re-format for looks, organize the content and redistibute as everyone sees fit. Pay or free, doesn't matter to me.

BTW, if there's anyone that could give me advice on the wiring, I'm knee deep and starting to go cross-eyed.

Later,

Re: ZX-T Swap Manual

I know I think Ian 240Z had put something similar together for the wiring. I know a local 240Z 3.1Turbo guy (Josh) said after he was done he would try to put something similar together.

Hope to do the L28T soon on the Zdriver.com Project240Z after MSA:) But we will probably be using a aftermarket electronics system rather then the stock ECU.

zya!

Re: ZX-T Swap Manual

I will be doing the swap as soon as I get my 280z back together. I will be moving into a bigger garage first and then if I can find a decent 240 to do the swap, I will post pics and document carefully. I am about a year away though.

I hope to have mine in within the month, I can post and document everything for a 280Z. Need to find a harness, though...

Re: ZX-T Swap Manual

I just paid $2400+/- to put a stock 1983 turbo engine into my 1973 240z. The fun is worth it! But I think $1200 is a fair charge and then add for turbo rebuild ($600 in my case). The RUNNING turbo motor needed $1700 to recondition it (yes, I invested $4100) and then it blew a water hose after 100 miles. Beware! Replace everything you can afford. I would be happy to help compile or provide info & pics. We should append info on how to upgrade (a.k.a. increase boost) safely.

Re: ZX-T Swap Manual

I would definately like more info on this topic it seems to be a very common swap and I'm sure plenty of people want info on it.
If not I'd like info on RB engines and those kind of swaps now that would be even better.
I have a F54 BLock and P90 head at home and I've gotta collect all the rest of the stuff before I can put it in my 240z. So I would definately wanna know the things I'll need and how to install everything.

Re: ZX-T Swap Manual

Gavin, You will need: engine, ECU, engine wiring harness, ZX fuel pump, K&N cone air filter (with 90 degree elbow), vac/boost guage, ...

If you want reliability, a new oil line to turbo, turbo rebuild, all new gaskets & hoses, water pump, front & rear crankshaft seal, O2 sensor. Perhaps stronger oil pump springs & oil cooler. I'd not use the BorgWarner T5 trans (& shorter D.Shaft) unless I needed very fast 1st and 2nd gears. 3rd is a long ways away and the trans breaks easier and parts are harder to get. Check the manifold studs and injector clips for breakage. I prefer the 3.90 dif rather than the 3.54 that is in the ZXT.
