The day I got my '82zx, the first thing I did was drive over to my dads house and ask him to come outside...right away he knew I had gotten rid of my Camaro, he said "What did you do now?" kinda in a way as to say I probably did something stupid...when we got around the corner he said "oh, you got a 280zx!!" He went on for about an hour and a half telling me stories of him and his buddies having 240's and 260's when he was in the army and after he got out of the army and how everyone liked those cars. When my step mom came outside to see what was up he started telling her how my car is what the 350Z use to be and how he wanted to get another Z car. He said he has had 3 Z cars and that his mom still has a photo album that has pics of him and some of his buddies and their Z's from the 70's.

I think it is cool when other Z drivers on the road wave or say hi or just want to chat it up with you about our cars but when you talk to someone for an hour and a half that you have never talked to like that it makes owning a Z a real special thing...well, to me anyway.

Well you shouldnt exactly be waving cause they probably arent even looking in your direction, a simple honk of the horn or a flash of light should be more than a good enough signal. Oh and what exactly defines a touring car? Im just curious cuase ive been told that the 280zx isnt really a sports car but a touring car.

Oh and another snob story but this one was a 300Zx, it wasnt a stock one or in bad shape which made me believe it had to be a Z'er! Well we were at a red, me going north him south, I noticed he had the same exact yellow fogs that I have on his Z, anyway light turned green and he just drove right by me and blew off in my face with his BOV. Oh and believe it or not Im not the only Z in my school! theres a Datsun 300ZX Turbo(yes it says Datsun on the badges!) Its automatic and the kid that drives it isnt even into cars, more into emo rock and weed. I never bothered talking to him about it though, but I think hes realized that our cars are similar since Ive parked in front of him twice now, and I have my original Datsun280Zx badging...

Not sure what the storie about snobs was jdm, but I love the intent you show.

I wish I could really be a biger z fan than what I am, but for some reason I fill kinde of limited to the extent of z-ism I can have do to the fact that I only own one right now and I am selling it. In the future I hope to own a 76 280z with 4-speed in reall good condition and a 1980 280zx automatic for my wife. Right now I am cuting cost for my relocation for work and will soon be blessed with the money it takes to take the kind of care these cars need and the family needs. I love these cars and I have had countless conversations with strangers about them, and have even worked free at a z restoration shop for a short period just for the pasion of the z. it will allways be who I am. I remember growing up my dad had a datsun station wagen that had like a 2 speed automatic in it. it was a 73 I believ and it got about 31 miles or so to a gallon. I think it had like 3.54:1 or some obserd ration that got it the gass milliage. it was a reall treat of a car(real rareity if you ask me).

I tend to give other Z drivers a peace sign, nothing too extreme but acknowledging them (spelling?)
For Colorado Spring's response I have noticed that the majority of the waves or smiles back are Z31s and below

But likewise, I also have noticed the lack of 350Z response, but to back some of them up, out of the ones that I talk to and that talked back. They seem to have atleast owned one of the older Z's in their time.

Okay, now for the ragging...
Worst time talking to a 350Z owner was when I told them I liked their car and they told me that it was out of my leage. I laughed walked away.

I agree that eventually Z33's will become apart of the whole Z fan. I hope to own one

The 280ZX has usually been classified as more of a grand touring car, rather than a pure sports car like the S30's. The basic difference is the luxury/comfort. The 280ZX has amenities that make it more pleasant for long distance driving, as well as the sizable gas tank to achieve those distances.

And it also had more 'perceived' weight than the S30's but the '79 280ZX was hardly any heavier than the '78 280Z.

It definitely had a softer factory suspension which also contributed to the GT perception.

However, all of these things can be remedied through the aftermarket and selective choice of parts to increase performance, reduce weight and improve the suspension.

When all these are done, the 280ZX, especially in Turbo form, can significantly outperform a stock S30, especially in the realm of aerodynamic efficiency.

The definition I read for a "GT" car is litterally a front engine-rear wheel drive-2 seat sports car...something the Mustang "GT" was not as they all have 4 seats. Also it stands for Gran Turismo like the game.

The translation from Italian to english of gran tourismo is "grand tourer" (it's not exact, but that's roughly what it translates to). So in essence, in the english language the 280zx would be classified as a grand touring car.

Thats why there's no jerks in the 280zx forum. If there was they wouldn't be able to handle it in here and would run off screaming to HybridZ

Grand Tourers can, and frequently do, have 2+2 seating configurations. However, I agree the Mustang isn't really a Grand Tourer, though it's not due to # of seats; it's a Muscle Car.

^ It's a Pony car Aint nothing muscular about the Mustang unless its a Cobra. Most are, and always have been, of the 6 cylinder persuasion. Even its muscle car era glory days most Mustangs were 6 cylinder. That doesn't scream Muscle car to me.

On my road trip, I did get a wave from one 350Z driver going in the opposite direction. Besides that, they usually don't notice my old car.

I know of a woman who drives a Z31 and actually likes the car. She's not a huge Z fan but she knows what the car is and enjoys owning it.
