White gauge faces.
So, after mulling it over for the last two years, I think I may break down and do the white faced guages after all. I just don't want to pull that cluster out again and mess with the needles. They break so damn easily if you even look at them wrong. So, WildMan, where did you get yours? I saw some today on ebay (Curse that bloody site!) and thought I might get them. Any thoughts on this from someone who has already converted would be great.

They are worth it, but I found that I needed to do a little internal work to get rid of the shadows caused by using overlays. In the end its an awesome look that is totally worth it, in my opinion. Like you already know, the needles can break real easy. Just take your time and be careful.

Hey Rod, here is a current white gauge face auction. Not quite what me and Carl got. But it is probably better. I will go ahead and give you the username of the guy we dealt with anyway. whitegaugeguy. Hope this helps you out, and let me know, if you need any more info. :) |
check if theyr vinyl or if he just printed them out....
thats the kind i have tho http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...18_13_full.jpg |
That's the auction I was looking at, It's already up over 30 bucks and there's 3 and a half days left. I like the look, but I don't know if I'm willing to spend 50 bucks for 7 small vinyl inlays. Then again, I'm such a sucker that I probably will:o

You can buy the real nice gauge faces for $50.... I think. Like the ones I got with internal lights and all.
I also bought gauge stickers that were printed and laminated or something. It was about $15 including shipping. do you just want the images to print out on good paper yourself? Then lay a transparent sheet over the paper. |
a pair of needle nose pliers and pull up on the needle right where it mounts on it's pin. Just dont tweak it back and forth. I've yet to break one that way.
|
yup i did it like that...but when i put it on...my sleeve cought the needle and broke the tip of...youve got no idea how much i was pised off that i did everything right and damn thing cought..so roll up yer sleeves...i superglued it back and sanded it down..worked awsome!

Wow, for 14 bucks shipped thats not bad at all. They look pretty good. My only question is what are are made of?
|
aww...lol its 15 more for canada, well worth it, and 85 mile speedo...damn it!...il ike em too, guy should make one for a 220 kph speedo...
|
Do those REALLY light up that well?? I'm skeptical... ;)
 Well, after watching the movie I didn't see at first, I'm impressed!! Did you have to sand the faces down or use special lighting or what??? Wildman is going to go APESH!T over those!! :D |
They most certainly do...matter of fact, if you don't dim them down, they'll almost blind you at night...they hook up through the dimmer switch on the dash, so dimming them is easy. I'm tellin ya guys, these are NICE NICE NICE...I'd hate for ya'll to miss out on this deal. The seller, who I know nothing about other than that he supplies a NICE set of EL guage faces, has several other sets listed...at various prices...check the price before you bid, but they CAN be had CHEAP...
I don't install crappy products in my car, and these are definitely NOT crappy. This is the real stuff. No sanding down of anything...simply remove the screws that hold the original stuff in, put these on and re-install the screws...EASY, but there are alot of wires to manage, but it's not hard to do it. Damn near as easy as changing the bulb in your overhead cabin light. Warren |
Those are what I bought except that mine doesn't have the center area lit up. Mine only have the numbers light up.
|
i would buy them but then i have to replace my speed cog right? i dont want tickets!!! lol
|
Those are PRETTY. It really is a shame about the 85 only part though. Not too bad for us here in the states cause after 85 do you REALLY need to know how fast you're going :D But kmp would be nice for you metric folks. It's just nice to see parts for these cars period though
|
The guy with the white guage faces on ebay say's he has them for both the 85 and 120 MPH speedo's. Also has inlays for the analog clock or the digital clock. I still think 50 bucks is a lot to spend, but something tells me I'm going to.
Rod. |
120 would be way better than 85....illl splurge for 120 MPH
|
Warren,
Where did you get your dual gauge pod? I've been looking for one that will fit the apillar on the 280zx. |

140 is pretty easy to attain in a 280ZX. Stock it's capable of low to mid 130's. It would take very little upgrading to get that car up to 140-145. I know for a fact I've had mine to 135 and there was room left.
