What the h ell
What the h ell
Ok guy's. Tonight i turned my daylights on. i like seeing the orange glow of the dash. and i heard the weridist damn noise. hummmmmm, click, hummmmmm, click, hummmmmmmm, click, and so on. i traced the noise the the black box that is mounted above the passenger rear shock tower. I have never been able to figure out what that box does. never really cared about it. but now I am woundering. What does it do. and why the hummmmmm, click noise?
is it possable to make your own disk ? like say some one opens the drivers side door whil moving and nromaly the car says ( door is open ? ) somthing like that is it possable to make up your own voice ? that would be cool
Ok My Little talking lady did the same thing. I blew it off for a while until I put new dash speakers in. Well the middle or "left" speaker is the one the little ladies voice came through saying stuff like "bing! Lights are on, or Bing! Left door is open, or Bing! Right door is open. The "Click" is the Bing! and the "hummm" is her talking. So if that is all you hear the just hook up a speaker to the factory left front speaker wires and you can enjoy or be annoyed by this little lady.
Well I went ahead and dissasembled my talking lady box and guess what? It's a record. You know, some good ol' fashioned vinyl. it's just a little tiny record. There is a motor that spins the disc and the needle is on an armature that is activated via a coil/resistor. Depending on what the lady needs to say, the armature is positioned via electrical currnet to that portion of the disc. So basically, you'd need the capability to lay down your voice/recordings onto a disc. On top of that you'd have to position each recording/track in the same location on the disc as the original recordings so that the armature can still select the tracks. But if you wanted it to say something like "Get the F#@$ outta my Z" then you'd have to figure out what you'd want to activate it (like say the door being open warning) and then place it at the appropriate location on the disc. It's not all that difficult really. You would just have to have access to the equipment necessary to lay down on vinyl. Very small vinyl
The disc is only about 2" in diameter.

That'd be probably one of the best things security wise if you could figure out how to make seperate triggers so you could add voice things. Imagine someone trying to break into a car and someone yelling at them. I think that'd do better than a regular old alarm system.
Well I did snap a couple pics of the disc before I put it back together. But if you guys want some more I can take some more. I only did the disc cause I'm back on dial up due to cable failure again
So it takes me a while to upload.

The reason the disc looks so thick is because it is belt driven. The top portion is the actual part that is read. The middle is for the belt to ride on and the bottom is to keep the belt from slipping off. It's driven by a motor like you find in a cheap RC car. The needle/armature are a little more complicated. It works off resistance to determine where on the disc the needle will be positioned. Much like the temperature or fuel guage. From there the disc is printed with the voice. The black section in the center of the disc is, I'm assuming, to help locate the disc or something along those lines. i'm not too sure on that part.

Sorry guys, I could have told you this. I pulled one of these apart back in the 80's!
The key would be to somehow construct a potentiometer activated MP3 player connected to your stereo. So when the actuator arm/"needle" get's positioned, it would actually move a potentiometer which would make a "selection" on the MP3 player and play the "track".
With solid state MP3 players out there with no moving parts and flash memory, you could do some pretty cool replacement alarms and have little fear of it ever breaking or wearing outside of the armature and the potentiometer...

Alright guy's, i did nto feel like starting another thread for something small. and it's pissin me off. I can't find the freakin hot wire for the radio. What is the color/strip color of the wire? and what are the two wires that run from the talkin ladie box to radio for the sound of the box? And the box has not yet turned back on since that night.
