Toothed wheel on crank pulley?
The toothed wheel on my crank pulley has come loose and is wobbling around in there. On my other car (not a Z), this toothed wheel is for the ignition system and doesn't run well if it can't get a good read on the position. However, with the Z, the car seems to run just fine with it even flapping around. What is this wheel for? Thanks in advance.

Only the 1981 280ZX Turbo had a toothed plate on the crank pulley for the crank angle sensor. So you either have an 81 turbo, or a crank pulley from an 81T (you didn't say what model / year your car is).

Thanks NismoPick. That's interesting. The car is an 80 or 81, I don't know honestly, but is most certainly NOT a turbo. Can't imagine why somebody would have swapped the turbo pulley on there. Guess I'll just try to tack weld the thing back on so it doesn't flap around.

Or take it off... unless you know how to balance it after you weld it. :D

If it's not a turbo you don't have a CAS on the harmonic balancer. Pics...

Will see if I can get a photo and post it up.
