timing question

quick question if the timing in an l28e is soo far off will it bend the valves like in a interferance engine?

Timing as in adjusting the distributor? Or timing as in crank to cam timing?

crank to cam

It depends on which head & pistons you have... flat top pistons will obviously be closer to the valves than low compression turbo pistons. I have never actually heard of an L series w/ bent valves... tho it's also pretty hard to brake the chain too.

Why do you ask? Did you mis-align the chain?

no friend is building a l28 and just wanted to be sure

Align the chain markings w/ the sprocket dots and then it will be good. Anything else... BAD. :D

yeah thats what i told him... hes building a 3.1 turbo stroker so he can try to keep up with my club president's car.... a 94 gt-r or his 600hp 300zxtt

yes they will bend. my dad did it when he inadvertantly put his timing chaing assembly together with the cam 180 degrees off. it will mash your valves and cause you to have no compression.

I am supprised I have not killed mine. If you line up the cam\crank like said to. My engine won't run. My cam is one notch counterclock wise. And my oil pump is the same. I spent an entire day lining up all my timing marks to see if I can get it runnin better. Lol, had to call into work the next day so I could put everything back. But hey. She does burn a gal of oil a week(no joke, I buy the 5 quart jug of 20\50 every week)
