Thermostat question

Hi, this is my first post and I need some help.

I bought a cheap not running partially disassembled '79 280zx 2+2, and I'm trying to assemble it.

Cleaning the thermostat housing, I've found this:

As I've researched, the components are: Thermotime, Water temperature sender and Coolant temperature sensor. You can see in the picture that there is a broken (and missing) part, can you tell me if this is the missing part?

Water temperature sensing switch

Thank you!

It looks like you have it correct as far as I can tell. But I would like a second opinion before taking my word.

Pick up a free copy of your FSM at http://xenons130.com/
This is the key to unlocking every question you may have in your car.

Thank you master, I do have the FSM but I was unsure about the part.
Now the challenge will be to remove the broken piece!

Welcome to ZDriver!

Weld a bolt on the end and then your can back it out. Since the thermostat housing is aluminum, you can zap the heck out of it, the weld won't stick to the aluminum, but will heat it enough to loosen it.

Thank you for the tip! I will try that.

YA that looks right. different year cars sometimes moved sensors around on the housing, or the housing has block off caps if the car didn't have the option. The water temp sensing switch is used to operate the injector cooling fan i believe.

Is the injector cooling fan the V-like thing that goes above the valve cover? Because I don't have it...

Just a member of another forum that made this up, not sure how accurate, but seams reasonable, as throttle body had a heater in it as well.
