Spare Tire Well Size

Ok can someone get me the measurements of the spare tire well? I got some sheet metal (26gauge) to make a replacement but I'm not going to cut it till I'm sure of the measurements. Thanks!

BlueKitsune Jul 11, 2009 05:36 PM

The more I mess with getting the old stuff out the more I want to remove that gastank before I try spot welding the new one in >.>

And by the looks of it now that I have all the inside panels off, it looks like this Z has been in quiet a few wreaks... at the lest 3? maybe 4

NismoPick Jul 12, 2009 11:28 AM

I'll try to get some measurements for you tonight.

BlueKitsune Jul 12, 2009 12:42 PM

Thanks Nismo!

NismoPick Jul 13, 2009 06:24 AM

Sorry... no time last night. But I will be in the garage this afternoon. :D

BlueKitsune Jul 13, 2009 11:23 AM

lol no worry. I'm still trying to remove the rust from around that area @.@

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 01:27 PM

Ok Now I'm just thinking of removing it and placing a flat piece of steel there and use the old spare tire mount to hold 2 cans of fix a flat. seeing they will be just as good as the "space saver spare"

audiofreak97 Jul 15, 2009 02:01 PM

Put some sheet metal in there then throw in a sub :)

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 02:03 PM

Thats a good idea actually lol

audiofreak97 Jul 15, 2009 02:26 PM

It wouldn't be too hard and lots of people have done it. I'll be one of them once I get my wheel situation figured out.

That 'Mach 5' 280ZX had an interesting setup. I didn't get any pics of it at the west coast nationals but I'm sure you can find them on here somewhere...

That's HeatRaveR's 280zxt. :D

I jotted down the measurements to the wheel well... and I think I left it in the garage. :paranoid:

audiofreak97 Jul 15, 2009 02:32 PM

I knew it was someone on here, I just couldn't remember who. Lots of time put into the back end of that car... I just stood there trying to figure it all out, haha

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 02:35 PM

lol Nice Job Nismo. And I'm STILL not sure what I want to do with my Z. I'll probably mod it a bit and leave out the back seats anyways. sense their kinda useless

audiofreak97 Jul 15, 2009 02:41 PM

They are good for holding golf clubs and junk mail. That's what I use mine for...

IS that the rear panel from a 2+0??? damn, how hard was that to fab up?

NismoPick Jul 15, 2009 02:51 PM

Yep... 2seater panel. Super easy... bolts right in.

Bolts in??? thats a little hard to beleave (now goes to see how hard it would be to remove that panel from his junker 2+0

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 05:18 PM

Holy crap. It fits like a glove. Man that looks MUCH nicer then have that big empty space, and its a good spot for some speakers! Thanks Nismo, I would have never thought about that XD

audiofreak97 Jul 15, 2009 06:43 PM

Interseting, I may have to go find a 2 seater and grab some interior :D

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 06:45 PM

lol I didnt know that panel comes out, might grab one every time I goto the junk yards and sell them on ebay XD
Ok back to the spare tire well. whats the best way to just put a plate in there?

BlueKitsune Jul 15, 2009 09:31 PM

I think I'm going to put in the center console from the 2+0 as well so I dont have that dumb ashtray. BTW the center console from my 2+0 as a switch looking thing in between the mirror controls. What is it for?

Geez... just trying to fix the spare tire and I'm ripping out the entire interior...

NismoPick Jul 16, 2009 07:08 AM

That switch is for heated mirrors.

And just get some sheet metal & go to work on it for the spare tire well... either that or you can get a new one from Nissan for about $100.

BlueKitsune Jul 16, 2009 08:29 AM

Thats a little much for some stamped metal....
And I'm not even sure were all the spot welds are for the spare tire well. doesn't help that most of it has rusted away either

I just grabbed a hammer, cold chisel and vise grips and cut one out of a car at a u-pull it yard, less than 5$. Threw it in the hole that was mine, and wa-la, stuff doesn't fall through anymore. I may get around to welding/gluing it in someday.
