name change and engine trouble

i had to create a new account considering i tried to update my email, and i never got one, so my account got locked out and i could no longer do anything.

anywho. im about to rip my freaking hair out. i got a PS gasket 7102, i have old sytle PS headers 70-1122, and they have these O's on each tube on the head side, instead of a machined flat surface. so i had to double gasket to insure proper seal, i ground down the flange as smooth as possible but a slight bit of warpage prevented me from sealing properly. so aside from having to get new headers or hack these off and have the surface machined... i used the double gasket method. now, i got the car back together, torqued everything properly, got excited to have her run and of course.

#1: Fuel pump runs continuously when starting vehicle, whether in start, On, or even when i pull the key out, it still runs. didnt do it before, i didnt do anything but replace hoses on my injectors and fuel rail, everything put back the way it was. When i first attempted to start her, she ran 5 seconds, then shut off like normal. After attempting to start, she ran continuously. stuck relay?

#2: I managed to get her to sputter to half assed start last night, she misfired like hell and i need to know if my firing order is at all correct. the book tells me one thing, the dist cap has a "1" designation on one of the leads, but it doesnt coincide at all with the book, so i went with the book, but she wont even sputter to a start like she did last night.

#3: Could i be leaking vacuum at the manifold? i was doing some research on those Keepers that share between the manifolds and if theyre at all different heights, then it will cause a leaking intake manifold as it usually ends up pushing on the exhaust flange and not the intake. could this be a source? when i did have her started, aside from misfiring, she sound like she was gasping air, not spitting exhaust.. so any comments/suggestions?

sorry for the lengthy post.

i have solved #1. The thermotime switch on the Air Regulator CONTROLS the fuel pump apparently. so to anyone who has had this problem especially when taking off an intake manifold, check those two little wires. i switched them around ( i made a mental note of not knowing which one went where) and voila! fuel pump runs 5 seconds, shuts off like normal. Blue/White on Passenger side, Blue/Yellow on Driver.

I managed to get her started again, however half-assed at that. the firing order is correct, only my number one on the Dizzy is two leads counter clockwise from the indicated mark. Thats how she ran before, so i wont argue with her.
She wants to run up at higher RPMs. but she cant idle, she struggles to stay alive and unless i depress the accelerator. if it is the intake leaking, does she just need me to depress the gas to giver her the fuel necessary to bring it to ratio, or would the intake leaking just cause her to rev up? is it possible im still leaking exhaust, and could a substantial exhaust leak cause this as well. im inclined to think my exhaust is not leaking, but i will have to tear the manifolds back off to verify. im not happy, but on the bright side, im getting pretty quick at taking these off. im a contortionist!

Is it possible your timing is so badly out that you have to fire from #1 two leads CCW? Have a good connection at your AFM?

it was probably a matter of oil pump distributor being installed incorrectly, however she runs like a top. well she did. i found out why i have not been able to get her running. after much diagnostic work, sensors, meters, switches, injetors, i found what looks to be a short in two of my diodes and the 4 transistors in the ECU. hooray...... scooped one up in good condition for 30$, *crossing fingers*. im going to have a buddy of mine fabricate a set of intake exhaust keepers. the intake is 19/32" thick and the exhaust is 12/32" or 3/8". so i asked him to make me a set of high temp steel 1" keepers with a 7/32" step. should do the trick. so as soon as i get it all put together and everything ill keep yall in the know. two weeks of banging my head against the wall and removing/installing manifolds. im just glad i do my own work rather pay someone out the wazoo.
