because the stock box looks pretty cheesy and you're supposed to getter better air flow and blah blah blah. But, I noticed that I've got another hose down there that used to pipe into the bottom of the stock air cleaner box. Anyone know what should I do with it?

Just went and checked on mine, and it doesn't have it.

Hmm, I guess it's called an Air Induction System

And it is unique to models produced in 1980. Hayne's says it draws fresh air directly into the exhaust manifold to help burn hydrocarbons before they are expelled as exhaust. So, I guess filtering it is not essential since the worst case scenario would be getting dirt in my exhaust. But having dirt in my exhaust probably won't provide any great benefits. Do people think I should port this into the air cleaner line or just put a seperate filter on it?

You probably don't even need a filter on it. If you really want one, just go buy a mini one and be done with it.

My friend has a 1980 2+2...he just put one of those little oil breather filters on it...sounds cool cause it growls a little bit...his car runs fine with it disconnected and the little filter on it.

Like now i just found out my Z has door lock illumination. Saw it for the 1st time the other night. its all bright neon green lookin. And its timed. Kinda kewl.

Did you notice any difference in power?

RodMoyes 06-08-2007 07:40 AM

Just leave it open... Mines been open for 4 years.

The little box that it goes into has a filter in it. Just remove that filter every few months and clean it out.

BTW. It's called the "Air Induction Valve" and is ONLY on 1980 Model year cars WITHOUT California Emmisions equipment.

The new filter sounds awesome

I'm not sure if it's just psychological; I didn't dyno it before and after. But, it feels a lot more powerful anyway. And I've managed so shave some weight off my tires since installation.

I just ordered a little K&N to match my main air filter

I didn't see this until just now and didn't realize there was an inline filter before the reed valve. Oh well, it'll look cool and probably make cleaning a little easier.
