old girl, new life
old girl, new life
Hello,
kenny here. I got my JWT ecu back yesterday. I am happy
I spent the better part of the past week with my vom and my wiring harness.
I changed out all the ecu plugs with one that I found from a 89 turbo car.
The 89 car's ecu plugs have a retainer that will not allow flex in the wires leading into the plugs. An upgrade there in itself.
I checked all leads to sensors to read 0ohms.
Only found a short to chts. Fixed that. I had a friend bend and twist the wiring harness while I took readings, to see if there were shorts when you move em....
[Used the fsm for the 83 turbo and the 88 turbo to make sure my splices were right. [upgraded 88 turbo ecu JWT is what I have]
I have not yet finished timing the car, as night fall was approaching and rain started again.
However, I took the car for a spin.
Let me tell you.
After rechecking everything in the fsm, the car started up right away. I mean, in less than a second.
I drove it around on wet streets.....
I was impressed. Easily 1/2 again the results I had initally, last week.
My Magnaflow exhaust sounded sweet.
I did the tps calibration.....thanks nismo! [hes the man here!] not much to do, but do it to insure your open when you lift off idle. I am glad I know this now, I am becoming a z guy in the know.
Tomorrow I will properly time the car.
Then I'll install my new Panasport wheels and tires....re 11 bridgestone. I think 225 50 16 for the rear. Ill see if they will fit for the front, if not its 205 55 for the front.
thanks,
kenny

I was in iraq last year but I'll be going to afghanistan for a year next year. That deployment money is good for fixin Z's. Before I deploy I'm takin my Z to sunriseZ to have them work on it while I'm gone, and I might have my engine rebuilt by rebello if it's within my budget.

Come see me when you are home. U will be pleased with the progress on my z car.
I really thought you were in MS because you said it was a 3 hour drive for you on a previous post.
At any rate, keep your self well, and I hope to see you soon.
kenny.
Just curious, still got your Grassworks sweatshirt from when we worked together?
Stay safe my friend.

Panasport, the best looking wheel on a z period, imo

I hope to have my restoration completed by this time next year, looking like a new car.
I rolled the dice and got the 225 tires by Bridgestone they are the Potenza RE-11.
This are quick driveway shots of the tires after about 1000 miles! These tires are phenominal in the rain. I ran threw a fllooded section of the 240 loop, major water at 75mph or so. The tires stuck, the undercarrage flexed, under my feet, the tires tracked straight ahead, no pull either way, the car was at that point, was like a boat!!! surfed over the flooding with no drama.
They stick like glue on dry pavement, don't break away with agressive shifting.
I accidently blew by a MHP trooper on I-55 S at over 135mph!!! omg I thought, however this trooper was sympathic, said hed been there before, and looked over my car with satisfaction...he remembered when that car was nes.....no ticket!
Let me go with a warning....had him calibrate my speedo with his, 70mph is atually 68 indicated on my speedo.
Thank you sir, I owe you a debt of gratitude.
I'll go to Memphis Motorsports Park for any further testing....
Everything under the car has been replaced from wheel bearing out, period. This car is an absolute blast to drive, so crisp and percise is the steering, suspention, brakes, corners flat, have yet to breakaway on turns, the tires grip better than my courage allows me to drive.....
The car felt confident at over 135mph, begging for more....I have yet to top out, I saw 127 or so in 4th gear, tach does't work yet, so I don't know the revs...yet.
I take care of all the Abra Body and Glass shops in the Memphis area, and got one of their best body man to give me a quote on body work and paint.
Take out the glass, weld in patch panels for rust where needed, take the car down to metal and prime then paint for 4k.
He has a shop and does work on the side. Time for completiong 3-4 months.
thats my story for now.

what did you pay for your wheels? yours say panasportz and look a little more shinny all over...
while mine says panasport racing & the rim part of the wheel is more shinny than my center part.. more like powder coat shinny....
never the less their both nice wheels, good luck on your time table...
what color are you going with with on the paint??

the wheels look the same color as yours, judging by your photos.
My wheels look more shiney probably cause of the flash, my pictures where taken at night.
They are painted centers, polished lip.
I paid $780. dollars for the set, with $80. dollars shipping for a total of $860. dollars.
They thought they were shipping to a dealer is the reason for the discount.
Got 2 nice large Panasport decals to boot!
specs from the invoice:
FZ 1670 0mm 4x114.3 SVR/C
w/caps W66H250 & Air valves
Formula Mag Inc. Torrance Ca.
I want the car repainted black. I saw a 09' Lincoln MKS with metallic black paint called:
"Tuxedo Black Metallic" on window sticker. I really like that color.
Googled tuxedo black, found it uses ground up glass added to create multi-color flecks, purple, blue, gold, silver and green.
Thanks,
kenny
