Hey guys,

I have recently bought a new 280zx (posted it on fb red with white stripes)
And when i test drove it i noticed it didn't have seat belts.
I don't have the car at my place yet, I still need to get it, but I want do do some research before I move it without seat belts.

How hard is it to install seat belts in the front only? (its a 2+2)
What type will fit?
Is on side connected to the seat or to the chassis of the car?

pictures are always very useful.

Two styles of seat belts: 79-81, and 82-83. The connectors aren't interchangeable. The front seat belts bolt to the bottom and top of the B pillar, and the connecting buckle is bolted to the console side of the seat.

ok nice, So in principe i could buy a belt from a other car and just fit those on the forseen holes? What size bolts are they?

Yea but problem is I'm going to get the car tomorrow, so I would need a temp solution so the cops don't pull me over as soon as they see me

Buy some replacement strapping for seat belts (does anybody sell that?) or a cheap-o replacement belt assembly. Cut about 4 ft. of the strap off, pin one end of the strap to the post behind and above your left ear, pin the other end to the right side of your seat after you get in. On your way home, don't run into anything heavier than a Smart Car.

I can't believe I just posted this.

Oh yeah, get some OEM/equivalent belts and install them right. Do that first thing when you get it home. Remember that you have no air bags.

In my 88 a few years ago..I must have had a sign on my car that said "Mr Policeman, stop me". As it happened my seat belt got jammed this particular day and would not pull out all the way. I had to drive into NYC to see a client. At 2 points I got stopped by cops. Getting into the Midtown Tunnel the cop said I did not stop at the stop sign. I was stuck behind another car for 3 minutes as he was waiting for all cars to go. So, I was not stopped too? I came to a rolling stop after waiting behind the guy in front of me. I got out of that one.

Next I am waiting at a light in NY and a cop runs over to me and says "I am going to have to give you a ticket for not wearing a seat belt." The guy was a beat cop standing on a corner! WHAT? I told him my problem and he buzzed off..

Man, what a day! But the next day the belt worked.

 

I got the car home, I jammed a seat belt between the post and the bottom of the seat which worked fine in possibly fooling the cops. But I have an electrical problem now, But that's for a new post
