Question New Member Intro And buying/swap questions

okay so i am new on here my soon to be step sister has an 81 280ZX and i have been looking at one for sale so tell me what you think?

$450 79 280ZX been sitting but ran when it was parked - it currently needs a windshield, 4 tires, battery, and a head gasket (reason for being parked)

$100 79 280ZX with front end wrecked and no engine or tranny

i was thinking of getting both cars the second one for parts.

also i searched and could not find anything on this - i was wondering if anyone had done a chevy 4cyl swap kind of similar to the 80 Chevy Monza ?

how hard would it be? would the main problem just be the motor mounts? anyways thank you in advance for any advice!

Welcome to ZDriver!

Sounds like a score if you can get both and make a running car.

Not sure why you want to spend a lot of time and money to replace a 6cyl with a 4cyl...

The only 4-cyl engine that fits the Z is the SR20DET

Biggest issue would be you'd literally cut the horsepower in half

Oh znapz! Another Utah member! What city are you in? I'm in Lehi right now, but my garage is in Bountiful.

I rebuilt an L28ET turbo motor a few years ago... it sat for 5 years in my back yard w/ a blown head gasket. The main problem was the completely rusted cam because all the moisture evaporated and sat in the valve cover.

And we have a huge list of "Where to buy parts": https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-...r-280zx-18264/

Nice. I have a single car garage at my town home in Lehi (east of Cabela's), but my main 6 car garage where I have all my tools and Z is right downtown Bountiful. I work close to 21st So Redwood, so I commute up there after work some times.

Hit up the Z Car Club of Utah forum and on Facebook. Most of the members are 300ZX / 350Z guys, but there are a few of us 280ZX'ers as well.

Welcome to ZDriver . How's the body rust-wise? Rust tends to be like the biggest killer for these cars . Just saying
