New here - 1981 Datsun 280zx with L28ET Swap
Hey everyone just wanted to introduce myself never had the chance to become a member here before until now, I'm from medford, oregon, I'm a member out in Ratsun my main spot and also on HybridZ but mostly a lurker there.
In 2007 I purchased my first Datsun and my first Z
my intention was to pick up a decent S30 but saw this really nice and clean 280zx non turbo at tiny used car lot it killed me looking at for the next 2 weeks on my way to work every morning. So I saved up the money since it was selling for almost $3k, once I got the money I went ahead and test drove it and loved every second and had to take it home. Made the deal for $1500 since I had cash in hand and made it a deal, even with a few flaws like broken speedometer needle some rust here and there nothing too serious took it home
. The car did have a few aftermarket parts like Flowmaster exhaust and muffler and damn it sounded good and loud everyone thought it had a V8 lol, also had Front & back MSA sway bars and damn it could handle the corners even with stock suspension beside the sway bars. After a few years of driving it and enjoying the car for what it was i decided it was time to do something new, but not until one day at work when someone decided it to do a hit & run on the car at my old job. Man was I bummed out I still drove home to only barely make it until my radiator just bleed all its coolant on my driveway. So I let the car sit for months until I decided see what I wanted to do with it. I looked on CL and found a decent 83 280zx Turbo in sacramento. ca, called up the guy and decided to make the trip. It had low miles but the body was kind of trashed so the idea came to use it as a donor car for a L28ET swap. Got help from a friend that worked at nissan within a few weeks we got it up and running with a few surprises, it has a Z31 ecu & maf set up hooked it all up and finally after a week of running weird we figured it out. We basically swapped over everything, engine, trans, and sub-frame, I kept my stock R200 which was a 3.90 made it fun at take off. The hit & run damaged was in the front so it damaged the core support but handled the same, fixed it how I could because I could not find a good 280zx with a straight front and donor car wasn't that great and was long gone by then. I replaced the hood with a primered black hood from the donor car also installed a cool front air dam i got with the purchase and drove it for a couple more years until my P90a head got bad valve stems thinking the P.O. installed a older P90a from a junkyard because at 70k miles the engine and trans drove perfect and strong. So I took the head off and got the head rebuilt and and this is where I am now the car is a driver but mostly now sits as I hardly drive it. last year I got a free Z parts car from a friend the same year as mine but it was a real turbo model but had no engine or trans but a mostly clean and straight body. My O2 sensor bung on the Z fell off somehow
and has been running pig rich I plan on taking it to the muffler shop to get a new one put in but now being unemployed just recent I must part with ways with my Z
I will miss her but I gotta do what I gotta do

Looks like a good start! I admit, I took a gander through your thread on Ratsun. Welcome to Zdriver, mate! (to be honest, our Z areas are a bit more active than those on Darwin, which is why I bounce back and forth.
