My turbo plenum....

I finally got around to opening up the plenum on the turbo plenum I'm modifying. I ported the runners and setup for the 240SX TB as well as removing the webbing. Now I can get at the backside of the runner. The radius entry on the stock is pretty decent but we'll get her cleaned up ported and polished up now.

Lol - yea I drilled along the edge of the runners then just punched out the webbing. I had the manifold sitting there for about three months trying to figure out how to open it up. Turns out you can use the same air die grinder I used for porting and polishing but just used a zip disk and cutting wax (that's the tube of white wax to the right is). Just marked where I wanted to cut along the bottom and side took my time and kept waxing the disk.

i used an aluminum wheel on my straight air grinder. made quick work of it. then a aluminum burr to clean it up. im just gonna make my own manifold here eventually. all im gonna keep is the flange and where the injectors go. rossmachining sells the materials to make quick and easy mainifolds for resonable prices.

Since you removed the entire bottom EGR run, why not finish the de-webbing up to the plenum (aka... look like the N42)?

PS... very good job on the runner grinding / clean up!

The webbing between the outer runners is very close to each runner and I didn't see any benefits of removing it vs the risk of making the wall thinner on the runners. I also wanted to keep the flange on the face to keep it stronger - more work but I think it will help keep it true....

First of all the weld is on the bottom so you'll never see it when it's mounted on the car. Secondly the skin of the weld is the strongest part. It cools the quickest and gives the weld the majority of it's strength

Beautiful weld!!!!!!!!!! You are correct, leaving it there for strength.

A friend of mine did the weld. He's a welder with a LOT of welding experience. He doesn't do any fabrication other than welding and he's been doing it for 25+ years so he really is an expert. Interesting to note was that he said the aluminum in the manifold was excellent and very easy to work with with no porosity (sp?) in the metal. Another quality Nissan part
