mechanic/parts

Hi ,

I'm new to the web site, I have a 82 zx..

I took the car to the dealer to repair the AC, it has one of the push button type runs on vacuum..

And the charged me for the diagnostics but said the parts are no longer avaiable?

So now I have a car that I bought which I cannot fix or buy parts for? Is there someplace or some one in california who specializes in zx's..

The car has 102k original miles on it.. Stock ZX rims and is a 2x2 ..

please help.

also looked in the victoria parts catalog, don't have what I need.. Love the car just can't find parts?

What part are you looking for? Most everything on the AC is pretty generic with the exception of whats under the dash. Regardless, there are plenty of Z's in junkyards (especially in CA, and yes AZ so there's no whining ). So finding the part you need shouldn't be too difficult. If it's something from the engine compartment then there is definitely a replacement available. And that's not to mention all the people on here with parts cars and those that've ripped their AC's out. If it's something under the dash then I might have what you need. I removed all of the AC except the underdash crap so if you know what you need just let us know. If you're not too into fixing it yourself you can still take the part to a mechanic.

THE control unit in this Z runs on vacuum.., Soo when you select say heat or air or defrost. Vacuum pulls this device and switch the way the air flow.. Right now we have air flow only to the feet,

and the part I need nissan no longer sells, the said if I found a replacement more than likely it would be too old or worn.

What I would like to do is switch the system to a manual lever type? if possible or even have a after market system installed.

As is niether the air or heater functions properly, Whick sucks..

Freeze in winter or no cooling in summer. So car just sits ??? No one wants to drive it?

I remember seeing in a issue of Sport Z magazine, from earlier this year I think, a ready-made kit to retrofit a modern climate control into the Z.

You could have an aftermarket system retrofitted to your car. That shouldn't be too difficult. Can't say it would be cheap though That's my plan though. I wanna do away with the whole vacuum control system myself. I'm gonna take care of that when I drop the LS1 in that way I'll have a fresh compressor and I can redo all the lines and the condensor and all the underdash crap. Fit in a new core box and control unit. If you can find a kit that has all the blend and vent doors in one compact unit then a swap would be pretty straight forward. I have the whole blowing at my feet problem myself but it's because I'm missing one of the ducts and so the air just comes out that opening which is in the driver side. And I've got no AC so it's only heat to the feet for me and it gets hot down there And another thing you could try doing is zip tieing the vent doors in place so they blow where you want them to. That wont fix your no cooling/heating issues though. Good luck with everything.
