I am in need of a manual steering rack, years 79-83, please help!
Does anyone know if any other year will work or if you can use a power steering without actually hooking up the "power"??

 

AFAIK, the manual rack was only an option on the ZXR and base models from 79-81. There weren't any base models in 82-83. If you can't find a manual rack from someone here (might want to post in the classifieds), MSA sells them w/ a core charge: https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/23-4493

I believe you also need the manual rack's cross member...

 

Yes Nismopick, I took my powered rack out and put in a manual rack on my VQ35DE swap. The manual rack is a smaller diameter and the bushings are in a different spot, so you also need a manual cross member!
